Tribute from LIC Bible-A-Month Club (LIC-Bam Club)

Created by Elizabeth 3 years ago

‘The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.’
(Psalm 19:7-10)

The hunger for the Bread of life – the Bible - the Word of God that moved Mary Jones at age 9 with the support of her parents to work and save for 6 years to buy her own Bible, a scarce commodity at her time in Welsh, in turn move several men to realise ‘the need for Bibles, not only in Britain but Europe and, in fact, all over the world’. This gave birth to the British and Foreign Bible Society on March 7th, 1804. (Mary Jones and her Bible by June Bosanquet). Similarly, the Lord, through Rev Prof Kudadjie and two others were burdened that the Bible Society of Ghana must be supported on regular basis so that Bibles would be available and affordable to all in Ghana.

As our brother Dr. Twum-Baah recounts, the genesis of LIC-BAM was triggered when he was first introduced to the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) and its workings in 1984 by his senior brother and mentor Mr. Joshua N. Kudadjie (as he was then called) who was the then Acting General Secretary of Bible Society of Ghana. As the Lord would have it, the Leadership and Members of LIC at a General Annual Meeting in April 1989 decided to support the Bible Society of Ghana on a permanent and regular basis, in addition to the yearly Bible Sunday offerings. The dawn of day had shone on the three founding fathers. They were encouraged to realise the vision of creating a vehicle to generate local funding for Bible Society of Ghana activities. Hallelujah!

Thus, aside being one of the four Founding Fathers of LIC, to the glory of God, Rev. Prof Kudadjie, together with Dr. Kwaku A. Twum-Baah and Mr. Immanuel K. Agamah, also founded the Legon Interdenominational Church Bible-A-Month Club (LIC-BAM Club) that was established on 2nd July 1989. Rev Prof Kudadjie became the first Patron (the Representative of the Committee of Elders), after he had ceded the position of President of LIC-BAM.

The Bible Society of Ghana notes that LIC-BAM is not only the first of its kind in Ghana, but in the Africa Region as a whole. By God’s grace, over thirty years and still growing stronger, LIC-BAM faithfully and delightfully continues to support the Bible Society of Ghana BSG, thanks to God for a vessel such as Rev Prof Kudadjie that pleased Him to use. It was such a joyous and humbling time, when LIC-BAM Club on its 25th Anniversary in 2014 said ‘Thank You’ to the Founding Fathers. Our beloved brother and father Rev Prof Kudadjie, who was present in person, had a citation read in part as:

“Certificate of Honour is awarded to Rev Prof Kudadjie for your Pioneering Role in the Establishment of the Legon Interdenominational Church Bible-A-Month Club. Through your spirit-inspired leadership, LIC-BAM in partnership with the Bible Society of Ghana has provided free Bibles to many, who otherwise could not afford the scriptures. The fruit of your labour continues to be a blessing to many believers. Your role has helped LIC-BAM to be acclaimed as the leading Bible-A-Month Club in support of the Bible Society Movement in Africa.
As we celebrate the Silver Jubilee (25 years) of LIC-BAM in 2014, we appreciate your diligence and vision. May our gracious LORD greatly reward you.”

Today, even though we mourn your passing, we also confidently celebrate your life in the words of 2 Corinthians 9:12-15: For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is overflowing in many thanksgivings to God. By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of your submission flowing from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!

Our dearly beloved Senior Brother and Founding Father - Rev Prof Kudadjie, Rest peacefully in the arms of God Almighty, our eternal loving Father.
