To My Senior Brother, Friend and Counsellor – Rev. J. N. Kudadjie

I would need to tell a whole story but these are anectodes instead of a tribute.

1978-1981: I was already addressing him as Rev. Kudadjie even before he formally entered the ministry or ordained as a minister of the Methodist Church of Ghana. Each time however, he corrected me and I said it was only a matter of time. I was impressed by his manner of speech and sermons at the Legon Interdenominational Chuch on Legon Campus and I couldn‘t bring myself to believe that he was not Osofo. He went on to become the Very Rev. Kudadjie.

John and I were preparing the back of Bungalow #5 Legon Hill (that was where the Kudadjies were living then) for a garden. We decided to cut off a branch of one of the trees which was giving too much shade to the grounds. Little did we know that this was going to tilt the stability of the tree. It came down on the house with a crash, smashing a window of the living room. I felt so ashamed of the incident and it took a day or two for me to go back and apologise. I was greeted with such overwhelming and disarming calmness that I told myself “don‘t ever try to provoke this man, you won‘t succeed.”

1985: Rev. Kudadjie saved our marriage. The details are suspended.

Circa 2007: A classmate of mine who was living at the Amasaman area but has long been called to glory once said “If there is a Pastor who can lead me to Heaven, it must be Rev. Kudadjie.” I believe at the time Rev. Kudadjie was pastoring a church in the Amasaman area. May they be united in Heaven.

Rev. Kudadjie didn‘t rush to speak. He chose his words with great labour and care, not wanting to offend. He certainly impacted my life and I believe the lives of many.

Senior man, may you rejoice with your precious crown in Heaven. Amen.
